Marie Curie

 1867 – 1934

My name is Marie Curie. I was born in Warsaw, Poland, in 1867, the youngest of five children. Back then, girls were not allowed to go to university, but I loved to learn. I joined secret classes called the "floating university," where women could study in secret.

When I was older, I moved to France to study at Sorbonne University. It was difficult because I didn’t know the language, and I was very poor. Sometimes, I didn’t even have enough to eat, but I worked hard and succeeded.
