In the following story, explore where their character strengths were demonstrated and helped them to overcome challenges and difficulties.

Elizabeth Blackwell
1821 - 1910
My name is Elizabeth Blackwell. When I was 11 years old, my family moved from England to America. My father believed in fairness, and he taught me that girls should have the same chances as boys. I loved to learn, and when I finished school, I decided I wanted to be a doctor.

But there was a big problem—no one thought a woman could be a doctor. I applied to 17 different medical schools, and they all said no. Then, one school, Geneva Medical College, let the students decide. The men thought it was a joke, so they voted yes. But I didn’t mind—I was ready to prove I could do it.
