In the following story, explore where their character strengths were demonstrated and helped them to overcome challenges and difficulties.

Jesse Owens
1913 – 1980
My name is Jesse Owens. I was born in 1913 in Oakville, Alabama. My family were farmers, and we didn’t have much money. I was often sick as a child, but I worked hard to keep up with my brothers and sisters.

Everyone in my family called me "JC," but when I started at a new school, my teacher misheard me, and called me Jesse. I liked the name, so I kept it!
