Description
This cross-curricular writing lesson will help children apply their knowledge of passive voice verb forms and modal verbs to a piece of writing based on their history learning. In this lesson, you will explore the English TAF criteria ‘Select vocabulary and grammatical structures that reflect what the writing requires, doing this mostly appropriately (e.g. using contracted forms in dialogues in narrative; using passive verbs to affect how information is presented; using modal verbs to suggest degrees of possibility)’ in the context of a piece of extended historical writing. Children will revisit previous English learning about passive verbs and modal verbs and be able to apply the skill of using passive verbs within their historical context. Children will produce a set of written instructions which include both passive verbs and modal verbs. There will be time for children to complete historical research and use this information to inform their own writing choices.
