Description

This cross-curricular writing lesson allows children to apply key language features to persuasive writing (e.g. modal verbs, direct address to the reader, rhetorical questions) within a piece of writing based on their geography learning. In this lesson, you will explore the English TAF criteria ‘write effectively for a range of purposes and audiences, selecting language that shows good awareness of the reader (e.g. the use of the first person in a diary; direct address in instructions and persuasive writing)’ in the context of a piece of extended geographical writing. Children will revisit previous learning about the language features of persuasive texts and can apply the skill of using passive verbs within their historical context. Children will produce a written letter of persuasion to a member of the school leadership team. There will be opportunities for children to apply their geographical knowledge about the causes and consequences of global warming and sustainability.
