This assembly is aimed at KS1 and KS2 and is a super resource to help deepen children's understanding of what makes a good friend and how to deal with friendship issues. It has the scope to last between 15-30 minutes and can be easily adapted to meet the needs of your pupils. For instance, if you are finding particular friendship issues are arising, you can edit the scenario and advice slides to reflect these issues and support your pupils. The PSHE objectives for this assembly have been selected from the PHSE Association's Programme of Study for PSHE Education 2020.

  • R10. Pupils learn about the importance of friendships; strategies for building positive friendships; how positive friendships support wellbeing

Pupils learn what constitutes a positive healthy friendship (e.g. mutual respect, trust, truthfulness, loyalty, kindness, generosity, sharing interests and experiences, support with problems and difficulties); that the same principles apply to online friendships as to face-to-face relationships
  • R14. Pupils learn that healthy friendships make people feel included; recognise when others may feel lonely or excluded; strategies for how to include them
  • R21. Pupils learn about what is kind and unkind behaviour, and how this can affect others
  • R6. Pupils learn about how people make friends and what makes a good friendship
