Description
This cross-curricular writing lesson will focus on children using figurative language to describe a setting. In this lesson, you will explore the English TAF criteria ‘In narratives, describe settings, characters and atmosphere’ in the context of a piece of extended geographical writing. Children will revisit previous English learning about figurative language devices and will be able to apply the skill of using these, particularly similes, metaphors, powerful verbs and adjectives in a geographical context. Children will produce a written description of the journey of the River Nile. (This lesson can be adapted to track the journey of alternative rivers studied). There will be time for children to complete geographical research and use this information to inform their own writing choices.
