About Rachel Clarke
Hello, my name is Rachel and I am the director of Primary English, a consultancy working with teachers and leaders across the UK to raise standards in literacy. I live in Coventry where I taught for many years and then worked as a Literacy Consultant for Coventry LA.
I've worked in education for nearly three decades and have been an English subject leader, SENCO, Deputy Headteacher and Literacy Consultancy. I have a huge collection of children's books that I like to share with teachers on my training courses and when I work with them in school.
I have written several books including Assess Fluency: Reception to Year 6 published by Collins and I enjoy writing magazine and blog articles about teaching English.

In this lesson, you will explore the English objective relating to the use of the passive to affect the presentation of information in a sentence. Children will learn specifically about the agentless passive and how to use it to create an authoritative written tone. They will also learn about layout devices such as headings, sub-headings, body text and text boxes etc. Children will apply their learning to write double page information spreads about Darwin and/or evolution. They will revise and edit their work to bring it up to a published standard.
Year 6 - Using a Range of Sentence Structures: Build a Sentence
Join English expert, Rachel Clarke, as she shares a lesson that will help children revisit and apply their knowledge of grammar punctuation and sentence structure. In this lesson, you will revisit a range of sentence objectives from the National Curriculum. The children will identify these features in given examples, then practise using these in a game. The lesson ends with children applying their knowledge of punctuation and sentence structure in order to create a descriptive paragraph.
