Feeling stressed? Take time to curl up with a book.
Research has shown that reading - even for as little as 6 minutes a day -can reduce stress levels by over 60%.
Reading lowers your heart rate, relaxes your muscles and is more effective at combatting stress than listening to music or drinking a cup of tea. (Maybe a book with a lovely hot cup of tea is even better!)
It’s always great to have recommendations, so with this in mind, the EuHu team have shared book choices special to them.
Where the Crawdads Sing
by Delia Owens
I was completely immersed in this story!
Written in two timelines that slowly intertwine, this murder mystery will transport you to the marshes of North Carolina. It centres around the life of a young girl called Kya who is abandoned to fend for herself. She is known by locals as the ‘Marsh Girl’ and is not treated kindly. She is accused of the murder of a popular local boy, and the book details her trial and her life through flashbacks.
If you enjoy the book, you’ll also love the film that came out in 2022 starring Daisy Edgar-Jones.

The Snorgh and the Sailor
by Will Buckingham
This is a lovely picture book about unexpected adventures and is beautifully illustrated. It reminds me of creating silly character voices for my class, and testing out samphire soup to surprisingly positive results!

The Thursday Murder Club series
by Richard Osman
I’m on the second one currently and literally can't put it down at night. It is so witty and dark. I find myself laughing out loud and gritting my teeth at the same time!

Getting Better
by Michael Rosen
The book I'm reading at the moment is Michael Rosen's new one 'Getting Better: Life lessons on going under, getting over it and getting through it'!
It's a lovely reflection on his life and how to remain hopeful through challenges and trauma. I love the reference to We're Going on a Bear Hunt in the title too!

The Midnight Library
by Matt Haig
Everybody, at some point, wonders what life would be like if we’d made different decisions. In this book, Nora gets to live out her different choices. I love the idea of a ‘multiverse’. I haven’t finished it yet, but I’m hooked!

I Need a Wee!
By Sue Hendra
I'm going to pick I Need a Wee by Sue Hendra. It's definitely not high-brow (haha) but I'm choosing it because it's one that I love sharing with my girls as a bedtime story and we always belly-laugh at it. (I also enjoy doing silly voices for it!). Their laughter is the ultimate stressbuster.
