5 spookily simple Halloween activities

Here are 5 simple activity ideas to get Halloween off to the best start!

1.  Leafy pumpkins

Collect autumn leaves together of all shapes, sizes and colours.

Either give children a template or ask them to draw the outline of a pumpkin.

Arrange the leaves and stick them down.

Use smaller, darker leaves to create a stalk.

Cut out the pumpkin and use it to make Happy Halloween cards or as a beautiful autumnal display.

2.  A spooky picture frame

Prepare a photo for each child. You could use face paints to give them a Halloween look!

Use lolly pop sticks to frame your chosen picture and cut around.

Glue the framed image onto coloured paper.

Draw bat wings on the coloured paper and cut around them.

Add googly eyes to the bottom of the frame.

3.  Ghoulish ‘eyes’ cubes

Half fill each section of an ice cube tray with water.

Add a couple of drops of food colouring into each cube.

Add the googly eyes.

Top up the cubes with water and freeze.

4.  Halloween song

Teach your children this memorable song or poem.

You might get them to write it inside a cauldron shape!

 Halloween’s coming,

Halloween’s coming,
Skeletons will be after you.          Witches, cats, and big black bats,

Ghosts and goblins too!

Flap, flap, flap go the big black bats
   Oooooooooooooh!
“Miaow, Miaow, Miaow,” say the witches’ cats,

  Oooooooooooooh! BOO!

5. Pumpkin tea-light pinch pot

For a longer-lasting alternative to carving a pumpkin, why not try a clay version?

Cut a piece of clay and squeeze for a while it to make it more malleable.

Roll it into a ball then, starting from the middle, use your thumb to pinch the clay out into a circular pot shape.

Using a non-sharp cutting tool decorate/create a face and add any other lines or marks.

Allow it to dry.

Paint it orange.

To create a glossy finish paint over with PVA glue.

Add a battery powered tea light and enjoy your glowing pumpkin!
